New Windmill Patent Print Wall Art with DIY Frames

Pinterest

LOVE these windmill patent prints!! They look awesome with the windmill tail and windmill blades hanging on the wall! #neutraldecor #windmill #rusticelegance #etsyshop #rustic #americana #vintage

To me, windmills are an American icon that played one of the most important roles in our nations agricultural history. I have dreams and hopes of one day living on a hobby farm with a towering windmill that can be seen for miles and miles. Until then, I will have to settle for bringing this American icon into my home in an uncommon way.

Windmills and windmill components have gained popularity as a result of being featured on HGTV's Fixer Upper. However, my love of windmills and other implements found on farms developed during the friendships I have formed over the years with the Amish. I have a deep respect for their age-old farming techniques that others may find archaic as well as their nonjudgemental, non-critical acceptance of others. In a world where everyone is interconnected and everyone's business seems to be everyone else's business, I have learned from the Amish that you can truly find peace when mind your own business.

40 Minute $140 Staircase Makeover

Pinterest

40 minute $140 gorgeous staircase makeover with carpet runners from Target!! http://www.whatroseknows.comAfter a little research online about resilient vinyl flooring (also known as luxury vinyl tile (LVT) or luxury vinyl plank (LVP)), we decided to have Shaw Urbanality 12 Plank in Skyline installed throughout our entire new construction home. I wanted to completely avoid any sort of tile flooring and my husband wanted to avoid any wall to wall carpeting. After having tile in a large portion of our last home, I did not want to deal with grouted tile floors or cold bare feet ever again. So far, we are loving our LVP. It's quiet, much warmer than tile flooring, cleans up easy, and it looks great. Plus, I can walk around with bare feet all day long and my feet and knees do not hurt like they did with the tile flooring.

40 minute $140 gorgeous staircase makeover with carpet runners from Target!! http://www.whatroseknows.comShortly after we moved into our new house, my son took a spill on the stairs. Then my nephew. Then my friend's toddler. And then we have our dog Sam who would slip and slide all over the stairs and the landing every time he went up and down. We needed to add a staircase carpet runner before someone else hurt themselves on our stairs.

7 DIY Home Decor Tricks

7 DIY Home Decor Tricks

7 DIY Home Décor Tricks

Getting your home to be showroom-worthy doesn’t have to involve a lot of money.  The smartest do-it-yourselfers know a home with personal touches is worth far more than a room full of expensive items.

Bring value to a house by turning it into a home with these 7 DIY home décor tricks that are easy and inexpensive to recreate.

1. Use 3M Command Hooks on Mirrors

Mirrors are great for adding more light and spaciousness to a room. They’re also great as focal points. Add a little class to your rooms during the different seasons by adding decorations to them. Easily hook wreaths, stockings and picture frames on mirrors by using 3M Command Hooks which are easily removable if you change your mind. Take a look at this tutorial on how to go about hanging a wreath on a mirror.

2. Put a Stylish Trim on Your Furniture

Are you tired of that white couch? Do you wish you had a fancy lamp shade? Spice it up yourself with a Sharpie! Draw lines down a plain couches arms or a design on that lamp shade by using sharpies and a metal ruler or stencil. This easy DIY hack might seem minuscule but it gives your room a big modern pickup!

3. Up-Cycle an Old Dresser

If your television needs a new multimedia stand, look around for a bargain dresser. You may even have one already in your house. With a little restoration and modification, a junky old dresser may just be a great place for a TV and its accessories. By removing the top drawers and converting the top of a dresser into shelving, your new multimedia stand will be able to house all of your electronics, as well as any media that needs to be stored.

4. Paint a Chalkboard Calendar

Chalkboard paint is accessible everywhere nowadays, and for good reason. Its versatility makes it a great blank slate that can be easily transformed for any occasion. Use it to keep track of your family’s schedule by making a chalkboard wall calendar. This DIY chalkboard wall calendar, from Brittany Bailey at Pretty Handy Girl, is great for keeping track of your to-dos on a monthly basis.

5. Use a Frame To Make A Key Holder

Keys can be easy items to lose, so keep track of yours with a homemade key holder. Simply grab an old frame, use fabric or cute paper in place of a picture, and screw a few hooks into the bottom before hanging it. Drop your keys there daily to help track coming and going.

6. Build a Plank/Pallet Wall

Old pallets pop up everywhere, begging to be recycled into something new. Pallets can be used in lots of DIY décor, but using the planks to build a plank wall really makes a statement in a small space. Start on your own pallet wall with this how-to from Melissa Fluhr at Project Nursery.

7. Turn a Door Into a Headboard

Scavenge local yard sales or auctions for vintage doors that once stood open to welcome guests into a home. Use their old purpose as inspiration for a bedroom headboard that invites relaxation. Repaint the door (I especially like the look of chalk paint for this) and mount it to the wall for a custom headboard that can’t be found in stores.

Putting together DIY décor is an easy way to customize a living space to your tastes. Take advantage of these 7 ideas for home décor DIY tricks.

BEST pick me up during these cold and dreary winter months! These Homemade Citrus Body and Hand Scrubs will wake you up, exfoliate your skin, and moisturize your body with all natural ingredients. There is even one for sore achey muscles after leg day. I bought all of my ingredients at #MyPicknSave #CollectiveBias #ad

Save where you can so you can splurge when you want....

That's my motto. Sure, there are lots of people in the world who are able to live 100% frugally at all times. I'm not one of those people. On occasion, I do like to splurge a little - as long as its within reason. And right now, with our approaching move to Minnesota, splurges are on hold until our home is sold in Wisconsin and we can start construction on our new house in Minnesota. This means more double coupon shopping at Pick 'n Save, fewer movie nights at the theater, and any vacation we wanted to take is put on hold until next year or the year after.

No more shopping at that 4 letter word store...

A few months ago I was introduced to a boutique type store at the mall that hand makes soaps, scrubs, lotions, and various cosmetics. The first time I walked in the store I was hooked. I also walked out of the store with $70 worth of soaps and scrubs and lotions.

Was I crazy?

Yes, as a matter of fact I was. After using it awhile I realized that even though the products were natural and made without chemicals or any of that yucky stuff I'm so desperately trying to stay away from, the stuff wasn't that great. At least not $70 great.......

But oh my goodness the minute winter hits the Midwest my skin is dry and it feels tight and I'm super uncomfortable. Not to mention, if I have to lotion up my legs and then put my jeans on right away after I shower, I get cranky. Who has time to wait around for lotion to dry 100% before getting dressed?! Not me.

Open a magazine, browse Pinterest, or walk down the aisles at any craft store and you will see that making homemade hand and body scrubs is actually do-able. Plus, it's very frugal. And if you are like me and don't exactly follow recipes from start to finish, you can still make your own hand and body scrubs because a lot of it is basically making it the way you want. I really don't think there is a right or wrong way in making homemade hand and body scrubs. It's all a matter of preference.

There are tons of homemade body and hand scrubs out there for anyone to try and most of them require just a few ingredients. There are basically three parts to a body and hand scrub:

  • An exfoliant like salt, sugar, ground coffee, and oatmeal.
  • An oil like coconut oil, olive oil, grape seed oil and various other nut oils.
  • A fragrance like essential oils or citrus juices.

If this were summertime, I would probably advise against using citrus juices or essential oils because your skin will be more sensitive to the sun. However, this is the middle of winter in the Midwest, we go days, sometimes a week without the sun shining and it's too cold anyways for our skin to be exposed. Citrus wakes me up. The scent revitalizes me.

Pick 'n Save has a beautiful selection of citrus fruits right now. The lemons and limes were just perfect for a homemade citrus hand and body scrub. While I was at Pick 'n Save, I was also able to pick up organic olive oil, organic coconut oil, 100% natural cane sugar, sea salt, and epsom salt. I wanted to make three different scrubs; a hand scrub, a basic all over (except the face) body scrub, and a sore muscle scrub.

For the hand scrub, I used 1 cup 100% Turbinado cane sugar, 5 tbsp olive oil, 5 tbsp coconut oil, and juice from both the lemon and lime. Simply mix it all together and store in a glass jar. I keep this hand scrub right by my kitchen sink and it has helped with my dry middle knuckle. I always seem to have one super dry middle knuckle this time of year.

There is even one for sore achey muscles after leg day. I bought all of my ingredients at #MyPicknSave #CollectiveBias #adI've been working out with a personal trainer 3x a week for almost 2 months now and after leg day, I'm super sore. They say epsom salt helps with sore and achy muscles so I made a sore muscle body scrub with 3/4 cup epsom salt, 4 tbsp coconut oil, juice from a lemon (just a squeeze or two), and a little lemon zest so I would remember this was for sore muscles.

The final one that I made is an all over body scrub (except for the face). The purpose of this one is to exfoliate the skin so I made it drier than the other two. Instead of sugar or epsom salt, I used sea salt. I wanted to have something really exfoliating and because sea salt is coarser than table salt, I figured it would do the trick. I learned years ago that it doesn't matter how much you moisturize if you have dry skin. To get rid of the dry skin, you need to exfoliate. Winter = dry skin for me.

For this all over body scrub I mixed 1.5 cups sea salt, 4 tbsp coconut oil, and several squeezes from a lemon and lime. I used a wide mouth glass jar for this one because when I'm in the shower, it will be easiest to mix the scrub with my hand since the oil settles to the bottom after it sits awhile.

Now that I'm saving where I can....

I feel much better about taking care of my winter skin and feel no desire to walk into the 4 letter word store at the mall. Plus, the next time I'm in need of more ingredients for another batch of hand and body scrubs, I don't have to go out of my way because I can get everything I need while grocery shopping at Pick 'n Save. Double coupon shopping at Pick 'n Save of course!
